Brasília is one of three new sites on the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Tour calendar along with Rome (Italy) and The Hague (Netherlands). Brasília is hosting its first-ever SWATCH stop, but the FIVB has been sanctioning events continuously in the South American country since 1987 when Beach Volleyball competition was "officially" recognized internationally. Located in the Central-West region of the country, along a plateau known as Planalto Central, Brasília has a population of about 2,557,000 making it the fourth largest city in Brazil. As the national capital, Brasília is the seat of all three branches of the Brazilian government
